Have a Merry Christmas, everyone! Have a great day and stay safe.
Spam is a huge problem for any online forum, especially for forums that do not require a login (like my website). On this note, you may have noticed that some of the comment forums attached to my older posts have swelled from time to time with obnoxious adds and spam. In order to address this situation I have made some changes to the way that comments are posted to the website.
I have implemented a permission system. When a comment is posted to the site it will wait for my approval before it's displayed, but if a comment tagged with your email address already has permission on the site (anywhere) your new comments will not require moderation and will immediately appear in the appropriate forum. In short, except for your first comment on this site, your ability to comment will be unaffected.
This is solely a method to control spam on my website and not a means to control content in your comments; feel free to disagree with me or tell me that I'm wrong. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from posting comments.
Again, I'm building this blog from the ground up so little changes like this will likely be frequent. Thank you for bearing with me.
Take care,
~Matt
Check out the new random picture button below the left menu. This finely crafted, and elegant button will take you to a random image in the wildlife database. This is especially handy if you are not familiar with the taxa, but still want to see pretty pictures.
Enjoy!

Hey all,
I've uploaded many of my Hymenoptera pictures into the database. You can see them here.
Lately, my blogging schedule has been intermitent at best. I'm hoping to have a blog up by the end of this weekend. Thank you all for your patience.
Regards,
~Matt
I've added over 100 new photos to the Wildlife Database. These include most of my robber fly and flower fly shots (thanks to Andrew and Gil for identifying the syrphids for me), significantly expanded on the Nematocera section including the mosquitoes and crane flies (thanks to Chen Yeung on BugGuide for the crane fly dets), and added a few shots in various places such as the Clavate Tortoise Beetle. I have also added a terrible shot of a Thick-headed fly (at least the family is represented now...) and a bunch of my unidentified stilt-legged fly pictures.
I have also added 4 new shots to the featured pictures section.
Cheers,
~Matt
